INTERNSHIP IN REFERENCE AND INSTRUCTION
Information Services Division
The William and Anita Newman Library

Policy:

The Information Services Division of The William and Anita Newman Library, Baruch College, is offering a practicum for students enrolled in ALA-accredited library schools. The program encourages leadership and the development of business reference and instruction skills in an academic library setting. The internship gives participants the opportunity to gain professional experience prior to graduation and addresses the gap between library and information science theory and practice. Interns will learn about the operation of various library divisions, attend library faculty staff meetings and local LACUNY meetings, serve at the reference desk, and participate in an active instructional program. Preference will be given to students interested in pursuing careers in business librarianship.
The William and Anita Newman library serves Baruch College, CUNY, one of the nation's largest business schools with an enrollment of over 15,000 students. It is a state-of-the-art library with 200 computer workstations, 400,000 volumes and 2,500 periodicals. Access to electronic databases and the Internet is available throughout the library.
