THE TICKER:
SUN EDITOR OUTLINES BASIC WARDROBE
FOR CCNY GIRLS.

The Ticker, Oct 30, 1939.

"The Essentials of a City College Coed's Wardrobe" and all the interesting details, was the topic selected by Miss Kay Thomas, fashion editor of the New York Sun for her talk to the members of the Girls Club last Thursday.

At the lecture, attended by scores of fashion-hungry femmes, Miss Thomas, an intriguing study in dashing black herself, stressed the necessity of the following basic clothes items to keep them from joining the ranks of the undressed: A tweed suit and several sweaters and blouses to change off; a topcoat, reversible or all tweed for street wear, games, etc.; a plain black crepe frock for dates; a sheer wool dress in a neutral shade as a foil for varied accessories, to be worn at games, dates and classes; a colored dress in either silk or wool; a fur trimmed coat or fur jacket; and a slim, conservative evening gown with jacket, so that is can be worn to dinners.

Most of the girls considered this wardrobe plan much too limited, but Miss Thomas definitely favored quality to quantity. In addition to the outline of wardrobe essentials, the smart young fashion editor also advised the girls on color combinations in accessories, and in relation to individual complexion requirements. However, even before fashions, Miss Thomas emphasized personal hygiene, posture, and care of clothes. She concluded her talk with a description of the duties and pleasures of being a fashion editor.
