METRO REFERRAL CARDS

There is an agreement among metropolitan area libraries to grant limited access to private collections for researchers who need materials not found in the public institutions of the CUNY and the New York Public Library systems. A researcher who needs a specific book or journal available only at one of these private libraries may be issued a METRO referral card by a reference librarian.

The card does not grant borrowing privileges, only access to the particular private collection to use the specific material listed on the referral card. The length of time that a researcher may use the material and the length of time the card will be valid is determined by the host library. For more information concerning METRO Referral Cards, inquire at the reference desk, on the 2nd floor.

INTERLIBRARY LOAN

AVAILABLE ONLY TO FACULTY, GRADUATE STUDENTS, UNDERGRAD STUDENTS AND STAFF

If a needed book, book chapter, article, technical report, patent, etc., is not owned by the Newman Library, it may be obtained through interlibrary loan. Requests can be made through the library's new ILL management system, ILLIAD. Many of the requested items may be obtained in one to three weeks if available locally. Some material may take longer.

The software has a number of features designed to speed the processing of requests and provide patrons with timely information regarding the status of their submissions. Specifically:

1) You create your own user name and password, meaning that you enter your name, address, department, etc., only ONCE, when you create your account.

2) You can receive information about the status of your requests through the Web interface at any time without having to contact the ILL department.

3) Material sent to us electronically can now be delivered to you as a PDF file.

4) You have the ability to renew interlibrary loan materials remotely through ILLiad.

5) lLLiad enables the library to improve turnaround time for interlibrary loan requests.

For further information contact the ILL department (illbb@cunyvm.cuny.edu) or Prof. Eric Neubacher at 646-312-1670.
