Borrowing/Renewing Library Materials

BORROWING PRIVILEGES

All current students, faculty and staff of any CUNY college may borrow circulating materials from the Newman Library, as may Baruch alumni who are current members of the Alumni Association.

LIBRARY CARD

A currently validated and barcoded ID serves as the library card.

LOST OR STOLEN ID's

Please immediately report any lost/stolen ID to circulation, security, and the registrar's office. If there is any change of address, inform both circulation and the registrar's office.

RENEWALS

All library users are entitled to renewals if no hold has been placed on the items.

Using "MY ACCOUNT" in CUNY+

Patrons in good standing and who have not reached the maximum number of renewals may renew titles by themselves:

1. Go to My Account at the upper portion of the screen in CUNY+
2. Enter your library ID/barcode with which you charged out the material. Your initial password is also your library ID/barcode.
3. Click on loans to retrieve a listing of books charged to your account.
4. Click on the number to the left of the item you wish to renew.
5. If the item is eligible to be renewed, the word renew will be underlined below the date due.
6. Clicking on the underlined word will renew the item and a new due date will appear.
7. Make a note of the new due date.
8. Log out of your account by clicking End Session.

Renewals will not be granted if

1. the title has been requested by another patron;
2. the item is long overdue;
3. the renewal limit has been exceeded; or
4. there is a block on the borrower's record.

RECALL ON BOOKS

Any item may be recalled, (requested to be returned by the person who has borrowed it) at any time for assignment to reserve. This is a rush recall, and the item must be returned within one week of the date of the recall notice.

Baruch undergraduates, graduate students and faculty may recall a book for any reason. The original borrower can then keep the book only for a minimum loan period, which is the longer of the original loan period or ten days from the date of recall. Find the item in CUNY+ and click on "Request."

COURTESY DISCHARGE

General circulation books may be returned to any CUNY library. Overdue fines can also be paid at any CUNY library.

OVERDUE CHARGES

(ALL OVERDUE CHARGES ARE PER CALENDAR DAY AND PER ITEM)
  • If books are returned late, there is an overdue charge of $.10 per calendar day per book to a maximum of $20.00 per item.
  • For recalled items, the charge is $1.00 per calendar day to a maximum of $40.00 per item.
  • If a recalled item is overdue on both the original and the recall due dates, both charges ($.10 per day, and $1.00 per day) will apply.

THERE IS NO OVERALL MAXIMUM FINES.
Periodicals, Reserve and Key fines are posted at the appropriate counters or in the rooms.

NOTE: Personal checks and credit cards are not accepted. Failure to pay any fine may result in a suspension of library borrowing privileges. Also, it may result in the withholding of grades, transcripts, diploma, or permission to register the following semester.

LOST OR DAMAGED ITEMS

Replacement cost ($50.00 if out-of-print) plus a $10.00 processing fee, or $10.00 rebinding cost if applicable, and any overdue charges. Once a bill has been created a processing fee of $10.00 is incurred, even if the item is then returned.

One overdue book or a total of $5.00 or more in unpaid charges will block library privileges. Students who do not clear their records, will not receive their grades, transcripts, or diploma, and will not be able to register or to graduate.

NOTE: Personal checks are not accepted.
Receipt will be issued upon request prior to discharging.
