LIBRARY SERVICES TO USERS WITH DISABILITIES

The Newman Library received an award from Access New York recognizing its easy accessibility to users with disabilities. Elevators, restrooms, and water fountains are wheelchair accessible. A photocopier on the second floor is wheelchair height. Room numbers and call number labels in the bookstacks are printed in Braille.

Group study rooms are available for students who work with a reader.

SPECIALIZED EQUIPMENT

1995 Access New York Award to Newman LibraryAn Apollo text enlarger is located across from the periodicals desk on the third floor.

A wheelchair - accessible PC is located on every floor of the library.

The Assistive Technology Room (Room 345) has a Braille typewriter, a Kurzweil reader, and a PC equipped with enlargement software and voice synthesis software. Assistive technology software is also installed on PCs in the library classroom (Room 135).

LIBRARY ASSISTANTS

Library assistants are available to help with the retrieval of materials, the use of photocopiers, and the use of electronic databases.
