Electronic Reserve: Items may be accessed through the library’s homepage by clicking on E-Reserve under the Search & Find section. Reserve items in a print format may be borrowed at the circulation desk on the second floor.

Laptop Loan Program: Laptop computers are available for use in the library and at home for limited periods. Check either the Web site or the circulation desk for details.

Inter-Library Loan (also known as ILL): Available for circulating books or for journal articles not owned or accessible at Baruch, but we may be able to get from other libraries. Before requesting an ILL, please check that the library neither owns the item nor has access to it via our electronic subscriptions.

Intra CUNY borrowing (CLICS): Available for circulating materials at other CUNY libraries. Allows you to request and hold materials at other CUNY libraries. Materials can be delivered to any CUNY library you choose. Available through the library’s catalog, CUNY+. Ask for details at the Circulation Desk.

Places to Study: Graduate study carrels and group study rooms. Request a key from the circulation desk. Also, seating areas on the upper floors, closer to the windows, tend to be better for quiet study.

Graduate Computer Workstations: 12 computer workstations reserved for graduate students are located on either end of the 3rd, 4th, and 5th floors on the 25th Street side of the library. Log-on instructions are on each machine.

Graduate Network Domain: Each graduate student has an account with 250 megabytes storage on the server. This allows for working with large data files.

Graduate Services Blog: Located via the Graduate Services page. Learn about library developments and receive research tips. Post comments and feedback, or ask for help.

Copying and Printing: Students receive a limited allocation of printing at the beginning of every semester. A network printer is located in Room 238 near the reference desk. Fee-based photocopiers are located throughout the library. Copy cards may be purchased from a vending machine in the 3rd floor copy room.

Library Instruction:  The library offers a three-tiered program of open workshops:
• introductory Research Basics workshops
• intermediate-level workshops on resources in a particular subject
• specialized workshops offered to groups of students by appointment

Research Basics workshops include Database Survival Skills, Precision Searching, and Web Research. These workshops familiarize students with basic concepts and skills and incorporate instruction on how to search databases such as CUNY+, LexisNexis, Factiva, EBSCOhost, and the World Wide Web. Subject-oriented workshops include workshops on Reuters, mutual funds, career resources, company information, and industry information. Specialized workshops, such as Databases for Marketing and Advertising, are offered by appointment, at the request of students or faculty.

For workshop descriptions, schedules and registration, consult the Workshops page, found under Services on the library’s website. All workshops are free.

Graduate Consultation Lab: Room 445 in the Newman Library is reserved for small group consultations or instruction sessions, by appointment with a librarian. We will assist with research assignments, projects, theses and dissertations, and provide instruction for effective research strategies, and in specialized databases. It is equipped with four workstations and a color scanner.
