Graduate Computer Workstations
Location
- Twelve computer workstations reserved for graduate students are deployed
on the 3rd, 4th, and 5th floors of the library in carrels at either of the
floor on the 25th Street side of the building (overlooking the Newman Vertical Campus).
Each machine is marked “Graduate Computer Workstation.”
How to Log-on
- To use the new Graduate Student computers in the library, graduate students
must input their Baruch Username in the “User Name” in the "User
Name" field, and choose "student" as their domain
in the "Log on to" field. If you do not know your Baruch Username,
please go to the Baruch Computing and Technology Center (BCTC) page at
http://www.baruch.cuny.edu/bctc/username/BaruchUsername.htm
- An error message will appear the first time users open a Microsoft Office
application. Users should click on "OK" and the installation will
proceed.
Main features
- Each graduate student account has 250 megabytes storage on the server as
a personal drive accessible through Drive “H” in “My Computer." anywhere
on campus. On workstations located in the library building only, drive “H” is
also mirrored simultaneously with “My Document”. Although we
back data overnight, all data should also be saved by students to a floppy
disk, CD, or other preferred media.
- Each workstation will have access to all
Newman Library research resources as well as Microsoft Office, Internet Explorer
and other software installed specifically to meet graduate student research
needs.
Caution
- All workstations will be secured as much as possible without interfering
with program operations. Because of the need for security, students may not
load data or programs on the hard drives.
