REFERENCE DESK
(Information Services)

The staff at the reference desk on the 2nd floor of Newman Library provide assistance in planning and organizing library users' research, in identifying and using both print and electronic sources of information, in locating and evaluating library materials, and in understanding the organization and content of materials the user has found.

Reference librarians can also help users locate materials not available at Newman Library, and, when necessary, arrange access to private libraries not otherwise open. In addition, the reference desk is the place to request library instructional materials (handouts) and to submit interlibrary loan requests.

For students enrolled in ALA-accredited library schools, the Information Services Division offers a practicum. Please see the Internship in Reference and Information Services page for more details.

The reference desk is staffed by librarians and reference assistants during most hours the library is open. Questions may also be submitted to reference librarians via e-mail or chat on the Ask a Librarian page. To make an appointment for an individual consultation with a reference librarian, call Prof. Louise Klusek, 646-312-1617.
